Weekly Jigsaw Puzzle

RISE

RISE at San Diego International Airport

When you visit the new Terminal 1 at San Diego International Airport, keep an eye out for the 21-ft steel jellyfish sculpture! (It’s hard to miss.)

RISE, created by artist Matthew Mazzota, is inspired by the purple striped jellyfish found off the coast of San Diego as well as the city’s sunsets over the Pacific Ocean. Mazzota worked with longtime engineering partner Bryan Starr, SE, PE of Tarantino Engineering Consultants (part of TLC Engineering Solutions) to design the sculpture with painted stainless steel and polycarbonate chainmail.

Assemble a digital jigsaw puzzle of this one-of-a-kind art installation at aisc.org/puzzles. Then visit go.aisc.org/dec25-cool to see our annual roundup of recent captivating steel projects!
